Senegal’s political climate intensifies as minister lashes out at opposition leader
Sharp exchanges between Senegal’s political figures have reached new heights following Ousmane Sonko’s latest comments targeting President Bassirou Diomaye Faye. Minister Dr Abdourahmane Diouf has launched a scathing critique of the Pastef leader, accusing him of undermining democratic values with what he describes as a dangerous lack of intellectual substance.
Tensions escalated further after Sonko’s remarks at the party’s 48-hour event in Touba, where he referred to the Head of State as a ‘manipulable president.’ Dr Diouf, a key figure in the government, responded with an unusually harsh statement that indirectly targeted Sonko’s leadership style and parliamentary conduct.
« Thiey Sénégal! This is what happens when an opportunistic deputy assumes the Speaker’s chair at the National Assembly: procedures are brushed aside, moral authority collapses under the weight of incompetence, analytical rigor fades in the face of glaring intellectual hollowness, and truth is sacrificed on the altar of reckless manipulation that paves the way for hollow revolutions devoid of substance. The Republic—only the Republic matters! » he declared.
