Sénégal: Khalifa Sall challenges Diomaye-Sonko regime with bold opposition move

Taxawu Sénégal organized its foundational congress this past Sunday, drawing prominent figures from the country’s opposition landscape. The event brought together key personalities including Aïssata Tall Sall, Bamba Fall, Oumar Sarr of the FDR, lawyer Me Elhadj Diouf, Alioune Ndoye from the Parti Socialiste, Abdoulaye Wilanne, and Doudou Wade. The gathering underscored a concerted effort to unite opposition forces against the current administration.

The congress set the stage for Khalifa Sall, leader of Taxawu Sénégal and former mayor of Dakar, to deliver a scathing critique of the government led by Bassirou Diomaye Faye and Ousmane Sonko. Sall accused the regime of neglecting the daily struggles of ordinary Senegalese, prioritizing personal agendas over public welfare. « They are deeply entrenched in self-serving schemes, » he declared, exposing what he described as a web of corruption and shadowy maneuvers at the heart of the state.

a united opposition vows to reclaim power

Khalifa Sall did not mince words in his address, framing the government’s actions as a betrayal of the people’s trust. His fiery rhetoric highlighted a system where power serves only those at the top, leaving citizens in precarious conditions. « We know they are in the thick of Baara Yeego, » he asserted, referencing a Wolof phrase that implicates the regime in covert dealings.

The opposition leader outlined a strategy of coordinated resistance, pledging to mobilize voters and electoral alliances to dismantle the current government. « An informed and united opposition will rise against them, because the Senegalese people have endured enough, » he declared. This declaration signals a bold step toward consolidating opposition forces ahead of future elections, aiming to restore accountability and governance that prioritizes the nation’s needs.
