Rabat hosts talks to boost Morocco-Kuwait air cooperation

In a significant move to enhance aviation collaboration, Abdessamad Kayouh, Morocco’s Minister of Transport and Logistics, held discussions on Tuesday in Rabat with Sheikh Hamoud Mubarak Al-Sabah, President of Kuwait’s Directorate General of Civil Aviation. The primary objective was to strengthen coordination in air navigation between the two nations.

Convening on the sidelines of the 29th General Assembly session of the Arab Civil Aviation Organization, hosted by Morocco, the two delegations thoroughly reviewed strategies to bolster air navigation safety and security. Furthermore, they explored various avenues for advancing bilateral cooperation in the aviation sector.

Minister Kayouh emphasized the enduring excellence of the historical ties binding Morocco and Kuwait. He confirmed that a key topic of the meeting centered on reactivating the direct air route connecting Kuwait City and Casablanca. Royal Air Maroc, the national carrier, has committed to resuming this service promptly upon the integration of its next-generation long-haul aircraft into its fleet.

Sheikh Hamoud Mubarak Al-Sabah affirmed that discussions also addressed the anticipated surge in air traffic between Kuwait and Morocco. This increase is projected in view of the 2030 World Cup, which the Kingdom of Morocco will co-host alongside Spain and Portugal. The objective is to efficiently manage the expected rise in tourist arrivals, both within Morocco and from the wider Gulf region.

The session concluded with the crucial election of members for the Organization’s principal bodies for the 2026-2028 term, including the General Assembly, Executive Council, and technical committees. Additionally, Khalid Cherkaoui was officially appointed as the new Director General of the Arab Civil Aviation Organization.
