Lucas Chevalier, once tipped to inherit the legendary Gianluigi Donnarumma‘s position as Paris Saint-Germain’s first-choice goalkeeper, has seen his prospects shift dramatically this season. Though he joined the club last summer from LOSC for around €40 million, his early performances failed to secure his place between the posts.

Matvey Safonov, the Russian goalkeeper, capitalized on Chevalier’s struggles and established himself as PSG’s new number one, steering the team to consecutive UEFA Champions League titles. This turn of events might suggest that the French goalkeeper’s future at the club is uncertain. However, recent reports indicate that the Parisian side has decided to retain Chevalier for the upcoming season.
Chevalier to remain at PSG despite Safonov’s rise
The club’s management has evidently been impressed by Chevalier’s professionalism and attitude during the second half of the season. Despite the competition, the 23-year-old has managed to secure his position within the squad, at least for now. A move away from the Parc des Princes this summer is therefore off the table, as PSG values his long-term potential.
PSG invests in the future with teenage goalkeeper
While the current goalkeeper situation remains fluid, PSG is already looking ahead. According to recent updates, the club is set to sign Alessandro Longoni, an 18-year-old Italian goalkeeper from AC Milan, as part of their long-term project. Longoni’s arrival will compensate for the departure of Renato Marin, who is being loaned to CD Nacional in Portugal’s top flight. Though Safonov and Chevalier will continue to battle for the starting role, Longoni and Marin represent the next generation of talent PSG aims to develop.
