Prominent religious leader serigne habib sy pledges allegiance to pastef in tivaouane

Tivaouane : Devant Ousmane Sonko, Serigne Habib Sy adhère au Pastef

Serigne Habib Sy has publicly declared his official membership with Pastef, making the announcement during his recent meeting with Ousmane Sonko in Diaksao. He conveyed his intent to acquire a party membership card, signaling a clear and public endorsement for the political party led by Sonko.

In the lead-up to the significant Mawlid celebration in Tivaouane, Ousmane Sonko, who serves as the President of the National Assembly and the influential leader of Pastef, undertook a visit to Diaksao. This visit was part of his customary engagements with various religious leaders in the region, where he was warmly received by Serigne Habib Sy. During their encounter, Serigne Habib Sy seized the opportunity to openly affirm his affiliation with the ruling party.

Addressing his esteemed guest, the revered religious guide unequivocally stated his desire to formalize his commitment to Pastef. « I am a member of Pastef, » Serigne Habib Sy asserted. « I plan to purchase a membership card very soon, although I am unsure about the process for joining through the online platform. » In response, Ousmane Sonko promptly offered to facilitate this step, assuring him, « I will personally ensure you receive your membership card. »

This public declaration by Serigne Habib Sy aligns with his consistent history of civic engagement. The son of the late Mame Abdou Aziz Sy Dabakh, he notably became involved with the « Y en a marre » movement in February 2021. Several years later, his public alignment with Pastef and his stated intention to formalize his party membership mark a significant development in his political journey, reflecting broader shifts in African current affairs and political allegiances.
