A true product of the club’s academy, Presnel Kimpembe navigated the tumultuous QSI era at Paris Saint-Germain through many challenges. His journey culminated on a triumphant note with a Champions League victory. The Parisian youth product now reveals that the acquisition of Willian Pacho quickly made him realize his time at the club was drawing to a close.

In 2024, Paris Saint-Germain finalized a €40 million deal for Willian Pacho, securing his transfer from Eintracht Frankfurt. The club’s intention was clear: the Ecuadorian international arrived in Paris to form a formidable central defensive partnership with Marquinhos. This significant signing inevitably impacted Presnel Kimpembe, who also operates as a left-footed central defender. The ‘Titi parisien’, currently playing in Qatar, recounted the moment head coach Luis Enrique informed him of the club’s plans to recruit a player for his specific position.
Pacho’s arrival paved the way for Kimpembe’s exit
« It wasn’t a heartbreak, no. Not at all, because I was already nearing the end of my chapter. I’ve always pushed myself to succeed and achieve my objectives. The circumstances became more complex, but that didn’t deter me from working hard, striving to return to my peak performance at the opportune moment. The story concluded in an utterly incredible way with that Champions League victory. I would have preferred to depart as a genuine on-field contributor to that win. However, the best possible way to express my gratitude to everyone was to leave with that trophy in hand », he shared in a recent interview.
«The situation became more complicated»
The defender, who honed his skills at PSG, also spoke about the slight undercurrent of frustration he felt, even amid the euphoria of the Champions League triumph. « There was immense joy and happiness. Yet, internally, a small sense of frustration lingered. I truly wished to be a key player on the pitch. While I know I was a significant figure within the squad and the club, not being actively on the field gives it a unique flavor », Presnel Kimpembe elaborated.
