The PPA-CI, led by former Ivorian President Laurent Gbagbo, has announced a ban on several party cadres and activists from attending its first ordinary congress, scheduled for May 14–15, 2026, in Abidjan.
Disciplinary measures precede the party’s major gathering
In an official statement, the party cited repeated acts of indiscipline by the affected members. These individuals had defied the PPA-CI’s decision to abstain from the Ivorian presidential election in October 2025 and the legislative elections on December 27, 2025.
Internal tensions shape the party’s leadership decisions
The upcoming congress, set to take place at the Abidjan Cultural Palace, aims to strengthen party cohesion and revitalize its base. However, internal disputes have led to disciplinary proceedings against several senior figures, who openly opposed the leadership’s stance on the elections.
While the party refrained from participation in the recent electoral cycle, some members chose to disregard the directive, prompting the leadership to enforce strict measures before the congress.
