Peru backs Morocco’s autonomy plan for Western Sahara
Keiko Fujimori’s incoming administration reaffirms support for Morocco’s territorial integrity and sovereignty over its southern provinces.
During a meeting with Morocco’s Ambassador to Peru, Amin Chaoudri, Peru’s president-elect Keiko Fujimori reaffirmed her administration’s commitment to supporting Morocco’s territorial integrity and sovereignty over its southern provinces, including Western Sahara.
The incoming government also expressed full backing for UN Security Council Resolution 2797, which endorses Morocco’s autonomy plan as the basis for a lasting solution to the regional dispute. This position underscores Peru’s alignment with international efforts to resolve the decades-long conflict.
In a congratulatory message to Fujimori following her election, King Mohammed VI praised the Peruvian people’s confidence in her leadership and wished her success in advancing progress and prosperity for the country.
Highlighting the strong historical ties between Morocco and Peru, the King emphasized the shared values and mutual respect that form the foundation of their bilateral relations. He expressed his determination to work closely with Fujimori to elevate these relations to a strategic partnership, benefiting both nations.
