N’Djamena mayor orders urgent repairs at key Hilton flood prevention site
The mayor of N’Djamena recently inspected the critical Hilton discharge site, initiating urgent repairs vital for averting potential flooding in the capital.
Mayor Sanoussi Hassana Abdoulaye of N’Djamena, leading a significant delegation, carried out an inspection on Thursday, May 28, 2026, at the currently damaged Hilton discharge site. This visit underscores the administration’s proactive stance on N’Djamena flood prevention within the city, a critical concern in African current affairs.
During the inspection, Mr. Gadengar Roasna Rodrigue, Director of Urban Planning for the central municipality, emphasized the Hilton discharge site’s strategic importance for N’Djamena. He explained its dual function: effectively channeling rainwater towards the river while also serving as a crucial barrier against river waters returning into the city during periods of high flooding.
Mr. Rodrigue further elaborated that the structure has sustained minor damage, specifically noting the deterioration of the floodgate designed to protect against riverine inundation. Nevertheless, he confirmed that various preparatory measures are already underway in anticipation of the upcoming rainy season.
On site, Mayor Sanoussi Hassana Abdoulaye issued stringent directives to the Directorate of Roads, mandating that all necessary steps be taken to ensure the floodgate’s repair is completed within the coming days. This immediate action highlights the urgency placed on safeguarding N’Djamena against seasonal floods, a key aspect of effective African governance.
