Ukrainian winger Mykhailo Mudryk is now free to return to professional football after his four-year doping suspension was officially lifted with immediate effect. The initial ban stemmed from a 2024 anti-doping control which detected a low concentration of meldonium, a prohibited substance. Mudryk had subsequently lodged an appeal with the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).

Crucially, recent modifications to the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) regulations mean that an identical test result today would not lead to any formal proceedings. The Football Association (FA) clarified the situation in a recent statement, explaining the regulatory shift.

“While the earlier result cannot be retroactively re-evaluated, Mudryk’s positive test would not trigger a suspension under the current framework,” the FA communicated. “The meldonium concentration identified in Mudryk’s sample would no longer be reported, thereby preventing any anti-doping rule violation from being declared.”

Considering these developments and various other factors pertinent to the case, the FA and Mudryk successfully reached an agreement, which received approval from WADA. As part of this resolution, Mudryk acknowledged his breach of the anti-doping rules and accepted a period of suspension, which he has now fully served. Consequently, the talented player is no longer under ban and is eligible to resume competitive play right away.
