No trace of him has been found since he left his office around 7 PM that evening, heading toward his residence. His vehicle remains unaccounted for, his phones are unreachable, and no hospital in the capital has recorded his admission.

The term “disappearance” used to describe this sudden vanishing in Niamey’s highly monitored environment is either a deliberate misrepresentation or a dangerous oversight. A figure of Moussa Kaka’s prominence does not simply vanish into thin air in today’s Niamey—he has been abducted.

An Abduction Rooted in Systematic Repression

This brazen act follows a well-established pattern of targeted repression against independent voices in Niger’s media landscape. Moussa Kaka, a long-standing correspondent and a persistent critic of the current regime, has long been a thorn in the side of authorities.
