The Kingdom of Morocco has officially joined the second political conference on the peace-security-development nexus, taking place in Mombasa, Kenya, on July 11-12.

This high-level gathering follows the historic inaugural conference held in Tangier in October 2022, which culminated in the Tangier Declaration. That landmark document established a unified African strategy emphasizing the interconnectedness of peace, security, and sustainable development across the continent.
The Tangier Process has since emerged as the continent’s premier platform for dialogue on how these three pillars reinforce each other. Key participants include the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa, UNDP, the African Export-Import Bank, and the African Development Bank, all working toward the same goal of integrated continental progress.
The Mombasa conference aims to assess progress made in implementing the Tangier Declaration while identifying practical strategies to strengthen the peace-security-development nexus in Africa. Discussions will focus on five critical areas:
- Operationalizing the Tangier Declaration through targeted thematic projects
- The transformative potential of artificial intelligence and youth-led innovations
- Balancing security expenditures with developmental priorities
- Mobilizing funding for nexus-aligned initiatives
- Lessons learned from the African Union’s support for complex political transitions
Leading Morocco’s delegation is Ambassador Mohamed Arrouchi, Permanent Representative of the Kingdom to the African Union and the UN Economic Commission for Africa. His participation underscores Morocco’s commitment to a holistic approach that combines strengthened partnerships with homegrown solutions tailored to Africa’s unique challenges and opportunities.
