Few bilateral relationships exemplify the power of strategic cooperation as vividly as the enduring bond between Morocco and the United Arab Emirates. Rooted in a shared history that traces back to the visionary leadership of King Hassan II and the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, these ties have evolved into a robust alliance built on mutual trust, aligned objectives, and a steadfast commitment to progress.
On June 2, the President of the UAE, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, welcomed King Mohammed VI to a private meeting at his residence in Rabat. This high-level exchange served as a platform for both leaders to exchange perspectives on pressing regional and international challenges, with a particular focus on developments in the Gulf and the Middle East. The encounter underscored the deep fraternal ties that bind not only the two nations but also their respective families, reinforcing a partnership that transcends conventional diplomacy.
The bilateral cooperation framework, established in December 2023, is designed to elevate economic, commercial, industrial, and investment ties to match the strength of their political and social connections. By leveraging their complementary strengths, Morocco and the UAE are transforming their relationship into a catalyst for sustainable development and shared prosperity. A cornerstone of this collaboration is the principle of mutual benefit, with both parties actively cultivating an environment of trust to drive pragmatic, results-driven initiatives.
This forward-looking partnership is already yielding tangible results. Joint ventures are being developed across sectors such as food security—including collaborations with the Office Chérifien des Phosphates (OCP) on fertilizer production—and high-impact tourism and real estate projects along the Mediterranean coast, in Dakhla, and Tarfaya. Recovery efforts in the Al Haouz region, devastated by a recent earthquake, also feature prominently in their shared agenda.
On the geopolitical front, Morocco has consistently demonstrated unwavering solidarity with its Gulf partners. During a recent escalation involving the United States, Israel, and Iran, the Kingdom firmly condemned actions threatening regional stability. In a show of support, King Mohammed VI engaged in a direct dialogue with Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, reaffirming Morocco’s commitment to the security and stability of its Gulf allies.
