With red armbands firmly wrapped around their sleeves, Moroccan lawyers have intensified their indefinite strike, gathering once again on Monday, July 6, before the Parliament building in Rabat. Fuelled by unwavering determination, they persist in their demonstrations, condemning what they describe as a setback for democratic principles and demanding the withdrawal of the draft law regulating their profession.
Lawyers in large numbers have joined the protest, voicing strong objections to the proposed legislation. They argue that the new provisions undermine their professional independence, particularly concerning their relationship with the public prosecutor’s office and the Ministry of Justice. The text also raises concerns over the transfer of training authority to the Ministry of Justice and the revised criteria for accessing the profession, including the lowered age threshold for qualification exam candidates.
