Julian Alvarez to PSG: a crucial detail could seal the deal

Speculation has intensified across Spanish media outlets in recent days, pointing to Paris Saint-Germain’s strong interest in acquiring Julian Alvarez this summer. While a potential transfer faces hurdles, notably Atlético de Madrid’s valuation and the keen competition from FC Barcelona, a specific factor might just tip the scales in favor of the Parisian club.

Following another demanding season, further complicated by the upcoming World Cup, Paris Saint-Germain is reportedly exploring the summer transfer window as an opportunity for squad revitalization. Among the key targets identified, Julian Alvarez stands out. Having joined Atlético de Madrid in 2024, the prolific Argentine forward could depart the Colchoneros this summer, but PSG is certainly not alone in pursuing his signature.

Julian Alvarez: a preference for PSG over Barcelona?

Fresh insights concerning the Julian Alvarez saga emerged this Thursday. Beyond hinting at a substantial €100M offer potentially coming from PSG, it was revealed that Atlético de Madrid holds a critical preference: should they be compelled to sell their star player this summer, they would strongly prefer not to transfer him to a direct league rival. This stance significantly disadvantages FC Barcelona, who are also keen on securing Alvarez, and conversely provides a distinct advantage to Paris. The final decision, however, will ultimately hinge on the world champion’s personal wishes, which he has yet to publicly disclose.

“We haven’t moved an inch” on transfers

After PSG’s victory against RC Lens on Wednesday evening, Sporting Director Luis Campos addressed the club’s transfer market strategy in a recent interview. He affirmed that, regarding transfers, the capital club’s activity has been “completely halted for several weeks,” a decision made in agreement with the coach and president. Campos stated, “We know very well what our upcoming targets are, but we haven’t moved an inch on the transfer market. The names circulating are merely speculations. Our ambition is to arrive on May 30th with motivation, with everyone fully focused on that. We want to do everything to continue our good dynamic. I’ve been told that a victory in the final can make history for everyone. Our intention is to reach the final in top form, and afterward, we will see, but for now, we haven’t moved an inch.” This indicates a clear focus on the upcoming Champions League final against Arsenal before any significant transfer business commences.
