Ivorian tech leader honoured at africa’s leading economic forum

Dr Edouard Fonh-Gbéi recognized for advancing Côte d’Ivoire’s geospatial innovation

Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire – The Director-General of the National Committee for Remote Sensing and Geographical Information (CNTIG), Dr Edouard Fonh-Gbéi, was awarded a prestigious honour on Thursday, June 18, 2026, during the Evening of Africa’s Economic Builders. The recognition, presented in the country’s economic capital, underscores his pivotal role in transforming Côte d’Ivoire’s geospatial landscape through innovation and leadership.

In his acceptance speech, Dr Fonh-Gbéi emphasized that the award reflects the collective effort of his dedicated team rather than a personal achievement. “This honour belongs to every member of the CNTIG who has worked tirelessly to turn vision into reality,” he stated. “It also serves as encouragement to push boundaries further and amplify our impact.”

The geodetic engineer, who holds a PhD in civil engineering with a specialization in satellite geodesy, has over two decades of international experience. Appointed CNTIG’s leader in 2012 following a rigorous global recruitment process, he has positioned the institution as a cornerstone of Côte d’Ivoire’s digital transformation. Under his guidance, the CNTIG has pioneered the integration of geospatial technologies into national development strategies, fostering sustainable growth and smarter urban planning.
