German envoy christian sedat engages archbishop samuel kleda in douala

Ambassador Christian Sedat’s courtesy call to Douala’s Metropolitan Archbishop Samuel Kleda on Monday, June 30, 2026, highlighted discussions on Pope Leo XIV’s recent visit to Cameroon.

A prominent German diplomat recently visited the episcopal residence of Saint Peter and Paul Cathedral in Douala. Christian Sedat, Germany’s Ambassador to Cameroon, paid a courtesy call to His Grace Samuel Kleda, the Metropolitan Archbishop of Douala, on Monday, June 30, 2026.

The Ambassador received a warm welcome from the Archbishop at the bishopric, followed by a guided tour of the premises. Under the direction of the Chancellor of the Archdiocese of Douala, Ambassador Sedat also explored the cathedral, which is celebrating its 70th anniversary this year. The German diplomatic representation in Cameroon later clarified the significance of this diplomatic engagement through an official statement on its Facebook account.

Strengthening the enduring bonds between Germany, Cameroon, and the Catholic Church

The German Embassy conveyed: “Currently in Douala! Ambassador Christian Sedat had the distinct privilege of meeting His Excellency Mr. Samuel Kleda, Archbishop of Douala, for an open and enriching dialogue concerning the vital role of religious leaders in society, especially in light of the historic Papal visit to Cameroon. This encounter also underscores the robust connections linking Germany, Cameroon, and the Catholic Church. Germany actively maintains its presence on the ground, engaging in listening and dialogue across the entire country.

Christian Sedat is an experienced German diplomat who currently holds the esteemed position of Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Cameroon. Based in Yaoundé, he officially assumed his duties in July 2025. His distinguished career includes extensive experience within the central offices of the German Ministry of Foreign Affairs and various diplomatic postings globally, notably in South Sudan from 2023 to 2025.

Driving local social initiatives forward

Before his current appointment in Cameroon, Ambassador Sedat served as Germany’s Ambassador in Juba. From 2009 to 2013, he contributed to diplomatic efforts in the United States and the United Kingdom, working at the German Embassies in London and Washington D.C. Earlier in his career, from 2005 to 2008, he was the Deputy Head of Mission at the German Embassy in Nouakchott, Mauritania.

Since arriving at the German Embassy in Yaoundé, Christian Sedat has been diligently advancing key aspects of German-Cameroonian cooperation. His strategic focus includes fortifying economic relations and enhancing development cooperation. He also oversees delicate cultural dialogues, particularly those pertaining to cultural and patrimonial assets originating from the colonial context. Furthermore, Ambassador Sedat is committed to supporting grassroots social initiatives, such as micro-projects in public health, demonstrating Germany’s dedication to the well-being of the Cameroonian populace.
