The Gabonese government has formally split the Société d’énergie et d’eau du Gabon (SEEG) into two separate entities, a restructuring aimed at improving efficiency in the country’s power and water sectors. However, despite this institutional overhaul, the deep-seated energy challenges that have long plagued Gabon remain largely unresolved. The division is intended to streamline operations and attract investment, yet observers point out that chronic blackouts, ageing infrastructure, and insufficient generation capacity continue to hinder progress. The new structure alone may not be enough to deliver the reliable electricity and clean water that Gabonese citizens and businesses urgently need.
