Gabon: Woleu-Ntem, the Laboratory of Gabon’s New Territorial Contract

Libreville, Saturday, July 11, 2026 (Infos Gabon) – In capitals like Libreville and major international decision-making hubs, presidential tours are often seen as exercises in political communication.

Celebrated since Thursday by President Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema in the province of Woleu-Ntem seems to pursue a broader ambition. That of making territories long considered peripheral the true drivers of the next phase of development in the country.

From Minvoul to Oyem, from infrastructure roads to schools, from agricultural projects to healthcare equipment, the presidential tour outlines the contours of a new doctrine of territorial planning in Gabon. A doctrine based on proximity, investment in land and reduction of geographical fractures that have long marked the country’s economic history.

Beyond inauguration and site visits, it’s now a certain vision of national development being tested in this region bordering Cameroon and the Republic of Congo.

The Gabonese government seems to want to demonstrate that another geography of development is possible. A geography where borders become economic opportunities, where provinces stop being peripheries and public investments strive for both cohesion and growth.

The real challenge now lies in transforming this ambition into measurable and durable results capable of changing the trajectory of Gabon’s economy and society in the years to come.
