The President of Gabon, Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema, convened a high-level meeting on June 3, 2026, with the newly appointed Director-General of Taxes, Edith Laure Mbiguidi Oyaya, alongside her leadership team and Thierry Minko, Minister of Economy, Finance, Debt, and Cost-of-Living Oversight.
During the audience, the new Director-General expressed her appreciation for the appointment while unveiling her strategic roadmap. Her vision centers on three pillars: revamping institutional structures, broadening the tax base, and streamlining tax collection. The tax administration aims to bolster monitoring systems, enforce stricter compliance measures, and uphold values of rigor, integrity, and professionalism.
Digital transformation takes center stage in fight against tax fraud
President Oligui Nguema emphasized the transformative role of the General Tax Directorate (DGI) in Gabon’s economic recovery. He underscored that mobilizing domestic revenue is vital to funding infrastructure and public services.
The Head of State called for the urgent deployment of a fully integrated digital taxation system. This digital leap aims to simplify taxpayer procedures, enhance financial transaction transparency, and eliminate tax evasion.
Demanding accountability and measurable results
In closing, the Gabonese leader urged the new tax leadership to abandon outdated practices by fostering teamwork, discipline, and transparency. With performance at the core of its mission, the government expects the DGI to become the driving force behind restoring fiscal health in Gabon.
