On Wednesday, Prime Minister Sifi Ghrieb of Algeria arrived in Niamey for a high-level meeting with Niger’s President, General Abdourahamane Tiani. The encounter underscored the deepening ties between the two nations and their shared vision for future cooperation.

Ghrieb conveyed Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune’s warm greetings to President Tiani, emphasizing Algeria’s unwavering commitment to fostering solidarity and strengthening bilateral relations between the two neighboring countries.

The discussions centered on reviewing the progress of key cooperation agreements signed during President Tiani’s state visit to Algeria in February. Both leaders also examined the outcomes of the second session of the Algeria-Niger High-Level Joint Commission, held in Niamey last March, where multiple bilateral projects were finalized.

President Tiani expressed his deep appreciation for President Tebboune’s personal dedication to enhancing cooperation, highlighting the rapid completion of a major electricity plant project—a testament to the robust partnership between the two nations. Both heads of state reiterated their resolve to deepen collaboration across multiple sectors to serve the shared interests and developmental aspirations of their peoples.

President Tiani praised the swift implementation of bilateral initiatives, describing the dynamic relationship between Algeria and Niger as a model of South-South cooperation. He emphasized the shared determination of both leaders to elevate their partnership to new heights, ensuring tangible benefits for their populations.

Prime Minister Ghrieb commended the progress achieved in a short span, noting that the bilateral cooperation had entered a new phase marked by robust political will and consistent follow-through on agreed projects. This success, he noted, stems from the strong leadership and rigorous oversight provided by both governments.

Ghrieb reaffirmed Algeria’s ongoing commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation in priority sectors such as energy, hydrocarbons, infrastructure, health, education, digital technology, and transportation. He stressed the importance of advancing strategic regional projects to bolster economic development and deepen integration across the continent.

The talks also addressed trade and economic cooperation programs, with both sides stressing the need to fast-track implementation to drive growth and reinforce regional stability. Additionally, they reviewed shared challenges, agreeing that sustained bilateral coordination would be essential in addressing regional security and stability concerns.
