Côte d’Ivoire reaffirms unwavering support for Morocco’s territorial sovereignty

During an official working visit to Rabat, Côte d’Ivoire’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Nialé Kaba, met with her Moroccan counterpart, Nasser Bourita, to strengthen bilateral ties. The discussions culminated in a joint statement reaffirming Abidjan’s steadfast backing for Morocco’s full territorial integrity, including the Sahrawi region.

In a gesture of solidarity, the Ivorian delegation explicitly endorsed the Moroccan autonomy plan as the most credible framework for resolving the decades-long regional dispute. This position aligns with previous commitments made by Côte d’Ivoire, demonstrating consistency in its diplomatic stance.

UN resolution endorsement and bilateral cooperation

Côte d’Ivoire also welcomed the United Nations Security Council’s adoption of Resolution 2797, which recognizes Morocco’s autonomy initiative as the most viable path toward a lasting solution. The Ivorian government further highlighted the strategic importance of its 2020 decision to open a consulate general in Laâyoune, a move that underscores the depth of bilateral relations.

For his part, Nasser Bourita expressed deep appreciation for Côte d’Ivoire’s consistent support, emphasizing the robust partnership between Rabat and Abidjan. He noted that this alliance is built on mutual trust and a shared commitment to enhancing South-South cooperation.
