Tchad : le Vice-premier ministre en mission de suivi de la gouvernance territoriale à Moundou
Chad’s Vice Prime Minister for Territorial Administration, Limane Mahamat, recently commenced a crucial mission in Moundou on May 19, 2026. The objective of his visit is to meticulously monitor and evaluate territorial governance practices across the region.
Convening from May 20 to 21 at the Logone Occidental Provincial Council headquarters, the sessions brought together a diverse group of key officials. Attendees included general delegates from government across the southern provinces, prefects, urban mayors, presidents of provincial councils, alongside respected deputies and senators.
During the opening remarks, Dago Yacoub, the Delegate General of the Government for Logone Occidental, extended a warm welcome to the delegation arriving from N’Djamena. He highlighted the significance of this gathering, emphasizing its potential to provide authorities with deeper insights into local realities and the most pressing needs of the populace.
Yacoub conveyed that this initiative presents a vital opportunity for the mission leader to gain firsthand understanding of the on-the-ground challenges, thereby enabling the formulation of concrete solutions to expressed concerns.
Addressing the assembly, Vice Prime Minister Limane Mahamat underscored the strategic economic significance of Chad’s southern zone. He proudly labeled it the nation’s “agricultural breadbasket” due to its substantial contribution to national food security.
The government official also drew attention to several pervasive security challenges impacting the southern provinces. These include persistent conflicts between herders and farmers, escalating inter-community tensions, and the illicit circulation of firearms. Such circumstances, he noted, critically undermine social cohesion and exacerbate divisions within communities.
Through this comprehensive mission, Chadian authorities are resolute in their commitment to fortifying local governance structures and enhancing operational coordination between the central administration and various territorial entities.
