Chad’s energy landscape is set for a transformative upgrade with the advancement of a groundbreaking tri-fuel power plant in N’Djamena, spearheaded by Algeria’s leading energy group, Sonelgaz. A high-level delegation, led by Sonelgaz International CEO Yazid Djellouli, recently visited the Chadian capital to finalize technical blueprints and operational timelines alongside Tchad-Elec representatives.
The proposed 40 MW facility stands out for its tri-fuel technology, enabling seamless operation using natural gas, liquid fuels, or a mix of both. For N’Djamena—where frequent power cuts and rising demand strain the grid—this versatility ensures a stable energy supply. The plant can dynamically adjust production based on fuel availability, whether sourced domestically or imported, reinforcing energy security in the region.
The collaboration extends beyond infrastructure. As part of the agreement, Sonelgaz will share critical expertise in managing large-scale energy networks and optimizing plant performance. This knowledge transfer aligns with the national utility, Société Nationale d’Électricité (SNE), to build local technical capacity. By empowering Chadian engineers with advanced skills, the project fosters long-term sustainability and reduces reliance on external expertise.
The initiative reflects Chad’s broader strategy to diversify energy partnerships and embrace adaptable technologies. By cutting dependence on expensive fossil fuels and stabilizing the national grid, the project signals a major step forward for economic sovereignty. Reliable electricity remains a cornerstone for industrial growth and national development, making this partnership a pivotal milestone for Chad’s energy future.
