Cameroon Water Utilities (Camwater) and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) signed a partnership agreement on 30 June 2026 in Yaoundé, aimed at sustainably improving access to drinking water for refugees and host communities, particularly in the Far North region.
Camwater and UNHCR are strengthening their collaboration to support vulnerable populations. On Tuesday, 30 June 2026, the two organisations formalised a partnership in Yaoundé to boost drinking water supply in and around the Minawao refugee camp in Cameroon’s Far North region.
The agreement was signed by Camwater Director General Dr. Blaise Moussa and UNHCR Representative in Cameroon Yvette Muhimpundu. It forms part of the ‘Alternative Solutions for Minawao Camp’ project, backed by the European Union, German cooperation agency GIZ, and UNHCR.
Under the pact, Camwater will contribute its technical know-how to design, build, and monitor water supply infrastructure. UNHCR will continue its refugee protection and resilience-building efforts, working alongside Cameroonian authorities.
Both institutions aim to improve living conditions for refugees and host communities while addressing challenges such as population pressure and sustainable water resource management.
