Cameroon and Chad strengthen military alliance following unity celebrations
The participation of Chadian forces in Cameroon’s National Unity Day parade has set the stage for deeper bilateral defense cooperation, with high-level meetings in Yaoundé this week.
Following the Chadian military’s participation in Cameroon’s National Unity Day parade, officials from both nations announced plans to strengthen their long-standing defense partnership, rooted in shared security interests and enduring military camaraderie.
The day after celebrating the 54th National Unity Day, Cameroon and Chad reaffirmed the strength of their military and diplomatic cooperation. Cameroon’s Minister Delegate to the Presidency in charge of Defense, Mr. Beti Assomo Joseph, received Chadian Minister of National Defense, Veterans, and War Victims General Issakha Malloua Djamous in Yaoundé on Thursday, May 21, 2026.
The meeting at the Ministry of Defense’s conference hall brought together key military leaders from both countries for substantive discussions. Through this engagement, Cameroon and Chad signaled their commitment to deepening a historically rooted bilateral partnership, driven by mutual security concerns and a shared commitment to military brotherhood, as outlined in an official ministry communiqué.
Led by General Issakha Malloua Djamous, the Chadian delegation was received in an atmosphere of mutual respect and cordiality. Discussions centered on enhancing cooperation between Cameroon’s and Chad’s defense forces, alongside addressing the region’s pressing security challenges.
This working session also highlighted the alignment of strategic priorities between Yaoundé and N’Djamena. Both officials underscored the importance of sustained collaboration to uphold regional stability and security.
The Chadian National and Nomad Guard detachment, invited as a special guest for Cameroon’s National Unity Day, made a notable impression during the parade along Yaoundé’s 20 May Boulevard. Their participation symbolized the excellence of military cooperation and fraternity between the armed forces of both nations.
Beyond military matters, the meeting reflected the shared determination of Cameroonian and Chadian authorities to nurture and expand the bonds of brotherhood between their peoples. By hosting this engagement, Cameroon reaffirmed its dedication to strengthening strategic partnerships with regional allies, fostering peace, security, and continental integration in Africa.
