Ouagadougou celebrates excellence in journalism as local reporter takes top honours
A glittering ceremony in the heart of Ouagadougou marked the 29th edition of the prestigious Galian Awards, honoring outstanding contributions to journalism across Burkina Faso. Among the distinguished recipients was investigative journalist Sié Frédéric Kambou, whose groundbreaking work earned him the coveted Ministry of Health Special Prize in the Online Press category.

His award-winning report, titled “Healthcare in Burkina Faso breaks free from privilege”, unveiled sweeping reforms transforming the nation’s healthcare landscape. Published in late December 2025, the exposé highlighted tangible improvements such as slashed medical examination fees and the elimination of dialysis session deposits in public health facilities—measures that have brought life-saving care within reach of thousands.
Triumph and gratitude on stage
With tears of joy, Sié Frédéric Kambou dedicated his award to the entire team at Burkina 24. In a heartfelt acceptance speech, he reflected on the challenges overcome to achieve this milestone—his very first major accolade.
“This moment is overwhelming. I share this honour first and foremost with my colleagues at Burkina 24 and our editors who inspire us every day. It hasn’t been easy, but here we are. This is my first award, and I’m truly proud. I urge every journalist to strive for excellence and seize every opportunity to shine.”

A collective victory for responsible journalism
The award not only celebrates Sié Frédéric Kambou’s dedication but also underscores the unwavering commitment of Burkina 24 to delivering insightful, citizen-focused reporting. The media outlet’s relentless pursuit of truth and accountability continues to set a benchmark for journalistic integrity in Burkina Faso.
The gala also celebrated Aïcha Diombélé/Kabré of RTB Radio, who claimed the Super Galian 2026 prize for her work in national languages. This dual recognition reinforces the vitality and diversity of Burkina Faso’s media landscape.

For Burkina 24, this 17th Galian win in 15 years—on top of numerous other honours—cements its reputation as a trailblazer in digital journalism. The milestone not only honours individual brilliance but also reflects the collective resilience and vision of a team that has redefined news delivery in the country.
As the curtains close on another memorable Galian ceremony, Sié Frédéric Kambou’s achievement serves as a testament to the power of perseverance, innovation, and the enduring impact of ethical journalism in shaping a more informed society.
