Burkina Faso and Mali draw 2-2 in women’s CAN 2026 friendly

The Burkinabe women’s team, the Etalons Dames, completed another series of friendly matches in preparation for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations. Following a goalless draw (0-0), Burkina Faso and Mali once again shared the spoils with a 2-2 draw on Sunday, June 7, 2026, at the Stade du 4 Août in Ouagadougou.

The Malian team struck first in this friendly encounter. In the 10th minute, Fatoumata Diarra put the Aiglonnes of Mali ahead (0-1). The Etalons Dames remained composed and regrouped. They took control of possession and made the Malians chase the game.

After a shot that hit the crossbar, Deborah Guira, who was following up, slotted the rebound into the net to make it 1-1. That was the equaliser.

Despite the technical quality of the Aiglonnes, the Burkinabe imposed their style. With another well-crafted move, Judicaëlle Ouoba curled the ball into the top corner. The Malian goalkeeper had no chance. Coach Pascal Sawadogo’s players took the lead (2-1), which remained the score at halftime.

Mali levels the score

In the second half, the Etalons enjoyed better ball possession while the Malians attacked but failed to break down the Burkinabe defensive organisation.

Eventually, a penalty converted by Aissata Traoré brought Mali level (2-2). That proved to be the final score, although both sides pushed hard until the final whistle.

In the first friendly match, the two teams had drawn 0-0. These games are part of preparations for the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations finals scheduled to take place in Morocco.

Burkina Faso is placed in the same group as Côte d’Ivoire, Tanzania, and South Africa. Mali shares a group with Ghana, Cape Verde, and Cameroon.

The tournament is scheduled from July 25 to August 16, 2026. This friendly match once again allowed Pascal Sawadogo and his players to prepare ahead of the competition start.
