Following his recent investiture as Bénin’s head of state, Romuald Wadagni has officially presented the composition of his inaugural government. This new administration comprises 22 ministers and three delegated ministers, showcasing a blend of experienced figures from the preceding regime alongside strategic new appointments.
The formation of this cabinet clearly signals the new president’s commitment to advancing the significant reforms initiated during Patrice Talon’s tenure. Simultaneously, it introduces Romuald Wadagni’s distinct policy direction, particularly emphasizing areas such as digital transformation, innovation, and enhanced public governance.
Among the pivotal appointments, Yvon Détchénou takes charge of the Justice and Legislation portfolio. Aristide Médenou steps into the crucial role of Minister of Economy and Finance, while Gildas Agonkan assumes leadership at the Ministry of National Defense. Furthermore, Djibril Mama Cissé Moussa has been entrusted with the Ministry of Interior and Public Security, crucial for national stability.
Bénin’s diplomatic efforts will now be spearheaded by Corinne Amori Brunet, appointed Minister of Foreign Affairs. Olushegun Adjadi Bakari retains his strategic position at the Ministry of Tourism, Foreign Trade, and Industry, underscoring the nation’s focus on economic attractiveness and international engagement.
The new executive also places considerable importance on social sectors. Benjamin Hounkpatin continues his mandate at the Ministry of Health, while Véronique Tognifodé assumes responsibility for the Ministry of Family and Social Action. Sedami Medegan Fagla has been appointed to oversee Higher Education and Scientific Research, reflecting a dedication to human capital development.
A significant new addition to this governmental team is the establishment of a dedicated portfolio for Digital Transformation and Innovation, a crucial role now held by Mahouna Aklogan. This strategic move highlights the new authorities’ ambitious vision to accelerate technological modernization and advance Bénin’s digital transition.
Regarding infrastructure and the living environment, Georges Alley has been named Minister of Transport and Living Environment. Concurrently, Edouard Dahomey will lead the Ministry of Energy, Water, and Mines, overseeing vital sectors for national development.
In addition to the core cabinet, the government includes three delegated ministers. Wilson Gakpéto has also been appointed to the highly strategic position of Secretary General of the Government.
