Algeria and Chad strengthen infrastructure ties with new deal

Algeria and Chad have formalized a fresh agreement in N’Djamena to streamline infrastructure projects, marking a significant step in their bilateral cooperation. The deal focuses on facilitating public works and foundational development initiatives between the two nations.

According to an official statement from the Algerian Ministry of Public Works and Basic Infrastructure, this agreement reinforces the momentum built since the memoranda signed in April, which outlined a roadmap for joint ventures in the sector.

Trans-Saharan highway project gains momentum with feasibility studies

The pact was inked by Algeria’s Minister of Public Works and Basic Infrastructure, Abdelkader Djellaoui, and Chad’s Minister of Infrastructure, Road Unlocking, and Maintenance, Amir Idriss Kourda. The signing took place during a coordination meeting in N’Djamena, held on the second day of an Algerian delegation’s working visit to Chad. Key figures present included the Director-General of Algeria’s Agency for International Cooperation for Solidarity and Development, the Algerian Ambassador to Chad, and executives from the Cosider Group and the National Public Works Company (SNTP).

On the Chadian side, the Minister Delegate for Infrastructure and senior officials also attended the session. The Chadian minister highlighted the “rapid progress” in implementing bilateral agreements, noting tangible advancements since the April accords were signed in Algiers. These include reciprocal technical assessments and the initiation of feasibility studies for the trans-Saharan highway project traversing Chadian territory.
