Stuttgart secures champions league spot with draw against frankfurt

Stuttgart clinches historic Champions League berth in thrilling Bundesliga finale

In a dramatic finish to the Bundesliga season, VfB Stuttgart secured a fourth-place finish and a coveted spot in next year’s Champions League after battling to a 2-2 draw against Eintracht Frankfurt on Saturday afternoon.

The match, played under stormy skies in Frankfurt, saw Stuttgart fight back from early deficits to snatch a point that ultimately proved decisive in the race for European football’s elite competition. With the draw, the Swabian club finished level on 62 points with TSG Hoffenheim, but held the advantage due to a superior goal difference.

Late drama decides Stuttgart’s fate

Chema Andrès opened the scoring for Stuttgart in the 10th minute, but Jonathan Burkhardt equalized from the penalty spot just before halftime. In a tense second half, Burkhardt added a second penalty to complete his brace, but Stuttgart’s Nikolas Nartey restored parity in stoppage time to salvage a crucial point.

The result meant Stuttgart leapfrogged both Hoffenheim and Bayer Leverkusen, who finished fifth and sixth respectively. Leverkusen’s own hopes of Champions League football were dashed by a 1-1 draw at home to Hamburg, while Hoffenheim suffered a heavy 4-0 defeat at Borussia Mönchengladbach.

Bayern Munich crowns historic season with treble

Meanwhile, Bayern Munich capped off a dominant campaign by thrashing Cologne 5-1, finishing the season with a Bundesliga-record 122 goals. Harry Kane, the league’s top scorer, netted a hat-trick to bring his tally to 36 goals in the Bundesliga and 59 across all competitions.

With the Bavarians already crowned champions for the 35th time, their focus now shifts to the Champions League and domestic cup competitions. Their relentless attacking prowess ensured they finished well clear of runners-up Borussia Dortmund and third-placed RB Leipzig.

Relegation drama unfolds in final fixtures

At the bottom of the table, Heidenheim and St. Pauli both suffered defeats that confirmed their demotion to the second division. Heidenheim’s 2-0 loss to Mainz left them with just 29 points, while St. Pauli’s 3-1 reverse against Wolfsburg sealed their fate. The latter now face a playoff against third-tier side SV Elversberg to determine their future in the top flight.

Wolfsburg, who finished 16th, will also enter the relegation playoff after securing a point in their final match against Stuttgart. Their survival hinges on the outcome of the playoff, which will be decided in the coming weeks.
