Senegal’s Ousmane Sonko has made a bold declaration through his social media channels.

Following extensive consultations with the President of the Republic, fundamental disagreements remain unresolved. The two leaders engaged in a lengthy meeting this morning, confirming areas of alignment while highlighting critical differences—particularly regarding the role of the majority within the executive framework, whose structure remains undefined.

Ousmane Sonko stated: “This morning, a lengthy discussion took place between the President of the Republic and myself. While some convergences were identified, significant disagreements persist, particularly concerning the place and role of the majority in the executive structure, the composition of which remains unclear.”

He added: “In light of these unresolved issues, PASTEF-Les Patriotes will not participate in the upcoming government and will not be represented by any ministers.”

In a spirit of responsibility and in line with the commitments made by the Party’s Executive Committee (COMEX)—reaffirmed by President Ousmane Sonko during his parliamentary installation—PASTEF-Les Patriotes engaged in multiple discussions with the President of the Republic to shape the new government.

This morning’s meeting between the President of the Republic and Ousmane Sonko confirmed both convergences and unresolved disagreements, particularly regarding the role of the majority within the executive structure, whose composition remains unknown.

After presenting new proposals to the President following internal party consultations, no favorable response was received.

As a result, PASTEF-Les Patriotes will not participate in the upcoming government and will not be represented by any ministers.
