Sonko addresses 2029 presidential race speculation

The leader of Pastef, Ousmane Sonko, remains cautious when questioned about his potential candidacy for Senegal’s 2029 presidential election.
Speaking to journalists, he emphasized the premature nature of such discussions. «There’s a lot of talk about my potential candidacy in 2029, but I prefer to wait. My party will decide who it endorses, and we’re not there yet,» stated the National Assembly President during the interview.
Regarding the possibility of President Diomaye Faye running for re-election, Sonko clarified his position. «I don’t concern myself with the president’s candidacy. He has his path to follow, and I have mine. I won’t speculate on whether the current president might run again,» he explained.
