The Senegalese Minister of Ground and Air Transport, Abdoul Ahad Ndiaye, has strongly rebutted accusations made by opposition leader Ousmane Sonko regarding illicit funds allegedly funneled into the holy city of Touba.
Speaking during an interview on national television, Ndiaye dismissed Sonko‘s claims as “a profound disrespect to Touba, its people, and the spiritual values of Mouridism.” He emphasized that such allegations reflect a complete misunderstanding of Touba’s cultural and religious significance, stating, “To equate the inhabitants of Touba with receivers of stolen money is an unacceptable insult.”
The minister underscored the dignity and unwavering commitment of Touba’s residents to the teachings of Serigne Touba, the founder of the Mouride brotherhood. He argued that Sonko’s remarks not only misrepresent the city but also reveal a deep ignorance of its core principles. Ndiaye also pointed out the absence of key local leaders during Sonko’s visit, suggesting it reflected broader disapproval of his statements.
In his defense of Touba, the minister praised the leadership of President Bassirou Diomaye Faye, calling him a leader who “understands the true essence of Touba and its people.” He highlighted the President’s efforts to address the concerns of the city’s residents, noting, “Every day, concrete solutions are being implemented to improve their lives.”
Abdoul Ahad Ndiaye also extended his support to Prime Minister Mouhamadou Al Amine Lo, commending his work in resolving long-standing issues under the President’s guidance. He described the Prime Minister’s contributions as “remarkable and dedicated to the nation’s progress.”
Addressing the broader political climate, the minister urged Senegalese citizens to prioritize national development over partisan conflicts. He reaffirmed his confidence in President Faye, calling him “a man of integrity, deeply committed to his country.” Ndiaye concluded by stating, “Despite relentless attacks, the President remains focused on delivering on his promises to the Senegalese people and steering the nation toward prosperity.”
