L’Ambassade des États-Unis à Rabat célèbre le 250e anniversaire de l’indépendance américaine et le partenariat durable avec le Maroc

The United States Embassy in Rabat recently hosted its annual National Day reception, commemorating the 250th anniversary of American independence. This year’s celebration, a significant milestone, took place for the first time at the historic Chellah site.
The prestigious event brought together a distinguished gathering of high-ranking Moroccan officials, members of the diplomatic corps, and key partners from both the public and private sectors. The reception served as a vibrant testament to nearly two and a half centuries of profound friendship and robust cooperation between the United States and the Kingdom of Morocco.
Morocco holds the unique distinction of being the very first nation to recognize the independence of the United States, a pivotal act that laid the foundation for one of America’s longest-standing diplomatic relationships.
This special anniversary celebration underscored the formidable strength of the bilateral partnership, highlighting deep collaboration across diplomacy, security, trade, and investment. Furthermore, it cast a spotlight on the burgeoning cooperation in areas such as innovation, critical infrastructure development, and economic growth.
The Embassy also took the opportunity to emphasize the enduring presence of the United States within Morocco, from the iconic American Legation in Tangier – recognized as the oldest continuously owned American diplomatic property globally – to the recent inauguration of the new U.S. Consulate General headquarters in Casablanca. These landmarks symbolize a shared commitment to a forward-looking and collaborative future.
Addressing the attendees, United States Ambassador to Rabat, Richard Duke Buchan III, articulated that the 250th anniversary of the United States is a moment to extol a partnership “rooted in history, fortified by trust, and resolutely oriented towards the next 250 years.”
Ambassador Buchan further elaborated, “This partnership exemplifies our dedication to strengthening economic and human bonds between our peoples, particularly through initiatives that support His Majesty King Mohammed VI’s vision for the Moroccan Sahara as a dynamic hub for transatlantic partnership and opportunities.”
Adding another layer to the celebration, Morocco’s participation in the upcoming World Cup, hosted by the United States, was noted as a powerful contemporary example of the human connections that consistently reinforce the ties between the two nations.
The evening culminated in a spectacular display of fireworks and drones, a symbolic flourish representing the enduring friendship between the United States and Morocco, alongside their shared aspirations for the future.
