Libreville mayor Eugène Mba outlines urban renewal plans to Gabon’s leader

Gabon’s Head of State, Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema, met yesterday with Libreville’s Mayor, Eugène Mba, at the Palais Rénovation. This encounter marked their second discussion since April 28, focusing on the ongoing oversight of local governance, evaluating the performance of municipal leaders, and strengthening collaboration between national authorities and local administrations.

During the meeting, Mayor Mba presented a comprehensive progress report on the initiatives assigned to him since taking office on April 24. He also outlined the newly restructured municipal administration. The talks centered on long-term urban transformation projects, including the reorganization of urban spaces, development of modern parking facilities, creation of green and botanical areas, and tackling unauthorized public land occupation. The modernization of municipal services through digitalization was also highlighted.

The Head of State emphasized the urgent need to enhance urban cleanliness, calling sanitation a top priority. He underscored that improving household waste collection remains a critical objective in this effort.

Reaffirming his commitment to a modern and appealing Gabon, President Oligui Nguema stressed that Libreville, as the nation’s showcase, must meet global benchmarks in urban planning, local governance, and public service quality. He urged Mayor Mba to uphold the highest standards of discipline, innovation, and efficiency in executing all planned projects.
