The Communication Cell of the Haut-Uele Provincial Government has strongly refuted allegations of Governor Jean Bakomito Gambu’s alleged collaboration with Corneille Nangaa in the ongoing unrest in Isiro. In an official statement, Muammar Awoni, head of the Cellcom, dismissed reports questioning the governor’s stance on national security.
In a detailed response, Awoni categorically denied any economic paralysis or school closures in Isiro on June 17, 2026. He emphasized that the academic calendar places schools in their final term by mid-June, and no marches or protests were recorded that day. The statement called for rigorous fact-checking before publishing unverified claims that could damage reputations.
Highlighting the governor’s commitment to peace, the Cellcom underscored Bakomito’s role in combating rebel groups linked to Corneille Nangaa, accused of fueling violence in the East. The governor is credited with supporting military operations, including providing FARDC with vehicles and logistical support to restore stability in Watsa and Mungbere, where suspected ADF incursions have been reported.
Awoni condemned the accusations as baseless attempts to smear the governor’s image, reaffirming his dedication to the President’s vision of peace, security, and development in the Democratic Republic of Congo. The statement concluded with a call for ethical journalism, urging media to verify facts before publication.
