Groundbreaking ceremony for new N’Djamena power plant set for coming days

The Minister of Energy and Renewable Energies, Mourad Adjal, confirmed this Wednesday in Niamey that the foundation stone for a new 40-megawatt electricity plant in N’Djamena, Tchad, will be laid very shortly. This major infrastructure project is set to be executed by Sonelgaz International as part of the group’s strategic growth across the African continent.

This announcement was made during the official launch of the 40-megawatt Gorou Banda power station in Niamey, a project symbolizing the energy partnership between Algérie and Niger. The ceremony was conducted under the guidance of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune and attended by Prime Minister Sifi Ghrieb and his Nigerien counterpart, Ali Lamine Zeine Mahaman.

During the event, Mourad Adjal praised the successful completion of the Niamey facility, noting that it serves as a clear demonstration of Sonelgaz International’s technical proficiency in delivering large-scale energy solutions beyond national borders within strict timeframes.

The Minister further revealed that the organization has already begun mobilizing for several other initiatives across Africa. The upcoming 40-megawatt plant in Tchad is the immediate priority, with construction activities expected to commence in the next few days.

Beyond Tchad, there is a significant and rising demand for the technical expertise of Sonelgaz International from various nations, including Côte d’Ivoire and Mozambique. Mourad Adjal emphasized that these ventures are part of a broader energy development strategy where the company leverages its specialized skills to ensure rapid project delivery.

By spearheading these projects, Sonelgaz International aims to act as a catalyst for other Algerian public and private enterprises. By integrating these domestic firms into the various stages of the value chain, the initiative will strengthen the presence of national expertise within broader African markets.

It is worth noting that Algérie and Tchad formalized their cooperation for the N’Djamena power plant last May. This agreement aligns with the vision of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune to foster South-South cooperation and provide concrete support for energy development across the continent.
