Gabon: oligui nguema to deliver state of the nation address on june 15

As deputies of Gabon’s 14th legislature gathered for their first oral question session on Tuesday, June 2, 2026, at the Léon Mba Palace, all eyes turned to a pivotal constitutional event: the upcoming joint sitting of Parliament, scheduled for June 15. The announcement, delivered by National Assembly President Michel Régis Onanga M. Ndiaye, directly addressed Vice-President of the Government Hermann Immongault, underscoring the gravity of the constitutional deadline.

This gathering is far more than a procedural formality—it is a cornerstone of Gabon’s democratic framework. The joint session, uniting both the National Assembly and the Senate, will provide the official platform for President Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema to unveil his State of the Nation address. This constitutional requirement ensures transparency and accountability between the executive and legislative branches.

The legal foundation for this moment is firmly rooted in the country’s constitution, which mandates that the President may address Parliament in joint session. As stipulated: “The President of the Republic communicates with each Chamber of Parliament through messages delivered by the presiding officer of the relevant Chamber. Upon request, the President may address Parliament in joint session. These communications are not subject to debate.”

Parliament races against the clock to meet deadline

The June 15 date sets an urgent pace for lawmakers. The National Assembly President emphasized the need for accelerated legislative action, urging the Government to fast-track pending bills before the parliamentary session concludes. Every major reform—from the restructuring of La Poste S.A. to the ban on raw manganese exports—and critical social initiatives, such as the issuance of national identity cards, must be finalized in time.

With deputies having just concluded a preparatory conference of presidents, the pressure is on to align public policy before the Head of State’s address. The coming days will test the efficiency and cohesion of Gabon’s legislative process as it prepares to hear the President’s vision for the nation.
