Colonel Michaël Randrianirina, the president of Madagascar, arrived in Libreville last Friday for talks with Gabon’s leader, President Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema. The visit aims to bolster friendship and cooperation between the two nations.
During a 48-hour working and friendship visit to the Gabonese capital, President Randrianirina was received at the Palais Rénovation. Discussions focused on strengthening bilateral ties and Madagascar’s ongoing refoundation process.
As part of the agenda, the Malagasy delegation attended a presentation by Professor Guy Rossatanga-Rignault, which outlined key stages of Gabon’s transition and the principles behind its return to constitutional order. President Oligui Nguema reiterated Gabon’s readiness to support Madagascar in restoring its institutions.
For his part, President Randrianirina expressed interest in drawing from Gabon’s experience in governance and institutional consolidation. At the conclusion of their talks, both leaders hailed the excellent state of relations between Gabon and Madagascar.
It is worth recalling that Colonel Randrianirina assumed power in Madagascar in October 2025, following widespread youth protests against former President Andry Rajoelina, triggered by severe water and electricity shortages.
