French Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu arrives in Rabat for strategic talks

French Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu touched down in Rabat on Wednesday evening, kicking off a two-day official visit focused on revitalizing the strategic partnership between France and Morocco. The timing of his arrival comes as both nations seek to consolidate ties after years of fluctuating relations.

Upon his arrival, Lecornu was greeted by Morocco’s Prime Minister Aziz Akhannouch. The French delegation includes twelve ministers, highlighting the significance of this diplomatic mission. The visit follows a period of diplomatic recalibration, with Paris and Rabat aiming to strengthen bilateral cooperation across multiple sectors.

During the visit, Lecornu and Akhannouch will hold a bilateral meeting before jointly chairing the 15th edition of the Franco-Moroccan High-Level Meeting. This high-level dialogue framework, one of the key platforms for political and economic coordination between the two countries, has not convened since 2019.

The agenda includes discussions on boosting economic exchanges, fostering mutual investments, enhancing security and defense cooperation, and addressing critical issues such as energy, infrastructure development, and ecological transition.

French and Moroccan authorities have confirmed that approximately fifteen agreements are set to be signed during this high-profile visit.

These agreements span key sectors including civil aviation, water management, strategic infrastructure, electric interconnections, security cooperation, and multiple cultural initiatives.

In the cultural domain, both countries are expected to formalize a strategic partnership between the Arab World Institute in Paris and Morocco’s Ministry of Culture. This collaboration aims to bolster artistic, heritage, and academic exchanges between France and Morocco.
