France-Espagne: Oyarzabal et Porro tuent le rêve de Bleus inoffensifs, les buts et le résumé vidéo de l’élimination française en demi-finale de Coupe du monde
The journey for the French team has come to an abrupt end. Les Bleus were eliminated from the 2026 World Cup at the semi-final stage, succumbing to a 2-0 defeat against Spain. What was billed as a potential early final ultimately saw a clear dominance from the Roja, who expertly controlled the game against a largely ineffective French offense.
First half misfortune: penalty and injury for France
The opening half quickly turned into a nightmare for the French squad. Amidst a series of intense physical exchanges, the Spanish capitalized on the match’s palpable tension to assert their dominance. This led to dangerous fouls, notably Adrien Rabiot’s early challenge on Dani Olmo.
The decisive blow arrived in the 20th minute when Lucas Digne, caught unaware, fouled Lamine Yamal inside the penalty area. While the contact appeared light, it was enough for a penalty. Mikel Oyarzabal confidently converted from the spot, maintaining his perfect record and putting Spain ahead.
Adding to France’s woes, William Saliba was forced off due to injury after just half an hour, making way for Maxence Lacroix.
Spain’s masterclass in the second goal
At halftime, sensing Adrien Rabiot’s growing nervousness and risk of a second yellow card, coach Didier Deschamps made a tactical change, bringing in Manu Koné. Despite his impressive performance against Morocco, the AS Roma player couldn’t contain the relentless Spanish attack.
In the 58th minute, Spain delivered a masterclass in offensive construction, culminating in their second goal. Pedro Porro finished expertly after a brilliant one-two with Dani Olmo, who managed to deliver the return pass despite being fouled at the edge of the box. This goal was symbolic of the exceptional performances from both players throughout the tournament.
Les Bleus were visibly reeling, and the scoreline nearly worsened moments later. Lamine Yamal’s superb solo effort, cutting in from the right flank before firing past Mike Maignan, was ultimately disallowed in the 61st minute.
Deschamps’ efforts prove fruitless
It cannot be said that Didier Deschamps didn’t attempt to change the game. However, his substitutions, including the introductions of Désiré Doué before the hour mark, followed by Théo Hernandez and Rayan Cherki, failed to disrupt the organized Spanish defense. Meanwhile, Spain’s coach, Luis de la Fuente, had his own strong options from the bench, bringing on Ferran Torres, Pedri, Mikel Merino, and Nico Williams to maintain momentum.
As the clock wound down in the final ten minutes of regular time, the French pushed desperately for a goal, but their efforts were fruitless, failing to even register a shot on target. This included a missed opportunity when Désiré Doué hesitated to lob Unai Simon, who had ventured outside his penalty area.
Thus, Spain will compete in their first World Cup final since their triumph in 2010. The Roja will face either Argentina or England, who are set to play their semi-final match on Wednesday evening.
