Côte d’Ivoire advances development strategy with key international partnerships

Abidjan’s national agenda is currently dominated by critical socio-economic discussions, including the second annual Child Protection Partnership (CPC) dialogue and the presentation of the National Development Plan (PND) 2026-2030 to the global community. These pivotal initiatives are at the forefront of the nation’s focus this Wednesday.

First Lady Dominique Ouattara is actively re-energizing the cooperation model with the United States. She has issued a strong call to intensify efforts and bolster partnerships, outlining significant challenges while charting a new course for enhanced collaboration. Her leadership is central to a historic partnership with Washington, aiming to strengthen Côte d’Ivoire and United States cooperation in the vital fight against child trafficking and child labor. The two nations are solidifying their alliance in this critical humanitarian domain.

Chairing the second annual CPC partnership dialogue, the First Lady expressed satisfaction with the progress achieved thus far, underscoring the positive outcomes of these crucial discussions.

Continuing on the socio-economic front, attention has also turned to a prospective partnership between Côte d’Ivoire and a prominent Chinese conglomerate. This collaboration is set to drive development across key sectors, including energy, electricity, water, and vital infrastructure.

A major Chinese entity, identified as China Energy Engineering Corporation and recognized as an industry giant, is poised to arrive in Côte d’Ivoire. Their presence is anticipated to help realize President Ouattara’s ambitious vision for national development. The group’s President and CEO has affirmed their readiness, stating, “We are prepared to invest in Côte d’Ivoire.”

Prime Minister Beugré Mambé and Ni Zhen have laid the groundwork for a strategic and transformative partnership. Discussions have centered on significant investment opportunities in electricity distribution, gas power plants, and transportation. The Prime Minister has extended a direct invitation to China Energy to invest substantially in Côte d’Ivoire’s burgeoning economy.

In related economic news, the presentation of the PND 2026-2030 to the international community has garnered widespread national attention. Côte d’Ivoire is strategically banking on private investment as the primary driver for its ambitious development plan. The PND 2026-2030 was unveiled to ambassadors, who were subsequently urged to mobilize their respective nations for the upcoming Consultative Group meeting scheduled for July 8 and 9. The government’s strategy for financing this plan heavily relies on attracting private capital.

The government has presented its comprehensive strategy to development partners. Minister Diarrassouba led a compelling advocacy effort before the international community, actively involving ambassadors in the crucial task of mobilizing the necessary resources to fund the PND 2026-2030. The government is committed to galvanizing global support for this strategic blueprint.

Furthermore, national reports have highlighted the presentation of the report and opinion from the Economic, Social, Environmental and Cultural Council (CESEC) concerning the nation’s agro-industry development policy.

Aka Aouélé and the CESEC have put forth seven concrete recommendations aimed at shaping the agro-industry development policy. The CESEC unanimously adopted a comprehensive report and opinion, which includes these seven specific recommendations. The council’s advisors have embraced this report and opinion, stressing its relevance to the agro-industry development policy and emphasizing that the CESEC’s adopted opinion is designed to accelerate the country’s economic transformation.
