Chad: significant weapon haul in Moyen-Chari as disarmament efforts intensify

General Issaka Malloua Djamouss, Chad’s Minister of Armies, Veterans, and War Victims, arrived in Sarh, the capital of Moyen-Chari province, on Tuesday, July 7, 2026. His visit underscores a critical mission focused on enhancing regional security and promoting ongoing disarmament efforts across this vital part of Chad.

Upon his landing at Sarh airport, Minister Djamouss received a formal welcome from Abderaman Ahmat Bargou, the government’s general delegate for Moyen-Chari province. Key administrative and military officials, alongside leaders from the defense and security forces, were also present to greet the minister.

The primary objective of this high-level visit is to engage directly with the province’s military leadership, conduct a thorough assessment of the prevailing security landscape, and lend strong support to initiatives aimed at bolstering the protection of citizens and their assets.

A significant highlight of the visit involved provincial authorities presenting the minister with an impressive cache of 247 weapons. This substantial collection, comprising both military-grade firearms and locally manufactured artisanal weapons, was successfully recovered from civilians during intensive disarmament operations over recent weeks. These crucial operations were executed by Chad’s defense and security forces, significantly bolstered by the joint Chad–Central African Republic force, underscoring effective African current affairs management.

Abderaman Ahmat Bargou, the government’s general delegate, reiterated the province’s ambitious and unequivocal objective: to achieve “zero weapons in civilian hands by 2026 and 2027.” He lauded the dedicated efforts of all forces participating in this critical disarmament campaign, a testament to effective African governance.

Observing the substantial quantity of seized armaments, Minister Issaka Malloua Djamouss extended his sincere commendations to the various defense and security forces for their unwavering commitment.
