Burkina Faso: over 20 security personnel and auxiliaries killed in northern attacks
In a series of brutal assaults across northern Burkina Faso this past weekend, at least 22 military personnel and civilian auxiliaries lost their lives to suspected jihadist groups.
A Rapid Intervention Battalion (BIR) base in Di, situated near Dédougou, came under a fierce assault from militant fighters on Saturday morning. This devastating incident resulted in the tragic loss of at least 14 soldiers and seven Volunteers for the Defense of the Homeland (VDP), who are crucial civilian auxiliaries supporting the army.
Further violence unfolded in the town of Solhan, where another attack claimed multiple lives, including that of a high-ranking officer. Security officials have confirmed both these coordinated and deadly operations in the region, highlighting the persistent challenges faced by Burkina Faso’s forces in combating militant insurgency.
