Sénégal: strategic moves ahead of pastef convention for ousmane sonko

The upcoming Pastef convention is shaping up as a pivotal moment for Ousmane Sonko’s party, with a two-day program designed to strengthen its internal cohesion and public resonance.

The first day, dedicated to internal party proceedings, will focus on key statutory reviews and leadership elections, while the second day opens the event to a broader audience in a display of grassroots solidarity. Saturday’s sessions will be restricted to delegates and observers, where critical resolutions and policy texts will be debated, culminating in the election of the party’s president.

On Sunday, the convention shifts to Dakar Aréna, where militants and supporters are invited to participate in a mass mobilization. Unlike past gatherings in this venue, entry to this event has been explicitly announced as free of charge, a move organizers say is intended to foster inclusivity and national unity.

Participants are encouraged to bring the Senegalese national flag, symbolizing a shared commitment to collective values and a unified vision for the country’s future. The party leadership frames this gathering as a historic opportunity to align the movement’s grassroots energy with its strategic direction, reinforcing both internal discipline and public visibility.
