Football fans across France are already marking their calendars for the highly anticipated opening weekend of the 2026-2027 Ligue 1 season. The Ligue de Football Professionnel has released the initial fixtures, setting the stage for intense battles as the capital clubs prepare to showcase their ambitions right from the start.
Paris saint-germain set for tough start
The reigning champions, Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), will begin their title defense on August 21-23 against Stade Rennais at the Parc des Princes. This opening clash promises to be a stern test for Luis Enrique’s side, who have already shown their intent with a demanding early-season schedule. Following the Rennes match, PSG will face a daunting trip to Lille in matchday two, before hosting AS Monaco in their third fixture—a clear indication that the road to another Ligue 1 crown will not be straightforward.

The intensity will only escalate as the season progresses, with the first Olympique de Marseille (OM) vs PSG showdown scheduled for September 20 at the Vélodrome. This high-stakes encounter will test the mettle of both teams before the international break, setting the tone for what promises to be an electrifying campaign. The reverse fixture at Parc des Princes is set for February 7, 2027, ensuring that the rivalry remains a focal point throughout the season.
Paris fc faces early challenge
Meanwhile, Paris FC, the other capital club, has been handed a slightly more favorable start. They will open their campaign away from home, facing newly promoted Troyes on the first matchday. A home game against OGC Nice follows, before a challenging run of fixtures including trips to Marseille and Lyon, as well as home clashes against Strasbourg and Olympique Lyonnais. Antoine Kombouaré’s side will need to hit the ground running to secure their place in the top-flight hierarchy.
